Documentary ‘Outlasting - Living Archives of Older Queers’ honoured at the Hollywood Indie Festival

The documentary ‘Outlasting – Living Archives of Older Queers’, directed by Ana Cristina Santos and Nuno Barbosa as part of the TRACE Project - Tracing Queer Citizenship Over Time, has been honoured with the Hollywood Best Indie Film Award in the Best Short Documentary category. The film gives voice to the experiences and memories of LGBTQI+ people over the age of 60 in Portugal, Italy, Greece, Malta and Slovenia, combining scientific research, art and activism in a unique archive of life stories and diversity over time.

The Hollywood Indie Festival is an international festival dedicated to independent cinema, with a diverse programme covering feature films, documentaries, experimental shorts and animation. Held online, it features a global jury and aims to promote emerging talent and celebrate boundless creativity within the independent film scene.

This latest international recognition adds to a remarkable track record of accolades: following its world premiere at Queer Porto 11 - International Queer Film Festival, the documentary had already been awarded, amongst others, the Best LGBTQ+ Film prize at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival (AIMAFF) and the Best LGBTQ Documentary prize at the Colours of Love – Queer Film Festival (Mumbai, India).

This award highlights the impact and artistic quality of a work committed to the visibility of historically marginalised communities, and reflects the work of the TRACE Project, based at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra and funded by the European Research Council (ERC-2021-COG, 101044915).
