Overview

Opened in the 1940s, the Hospital-Colónia Rovisco Pais, an important hygienist project of the Estado Novo, was intended for the treatment, study and prophylaxis of leprosy, according to a compulsory internment model.This article analyses the Colony Hospital as a disciplinary device, developing a reflection on the confrontation between disciplinary power and experience.
