Series of Online Seminars

Agroecology, Rural Women and Feminisms

2026/2027

Online

As part of the research project URGE – Cultivating Equality: Rural Women, Food Systems and Agroecology in the Iberian Peninsula, this series of webinars aims to create a space for debate, critical reflection and the sharing of experiences on the relationships between agroecology, feminisms and rural communities.

Drawing on the experiences of women farmers, the contributions of social movements and academic research, the series will explore the challenges and inequalities that characterise agri-food systems, as well as the alternatives emerging from agroecology, feminist economics and the struggles for food sovereignty and social justice.

Over the course of several sessions, topics such as the valuing and recognition of rural women’s work, care work and social reproduction, access to land and productive resources, political participation, the development of alternative markets and the role of public policies in promoting gender equality in rural areas will be addressed.

Bringing together researchers, women farmers, activists and representatives of civil society organisations from Portugal and other Iberian and international contexts, the series aims to foster dialogue between different forms of knowledge and experiences, contributing to the development of fairer, more sustainable food systems centred on the reproduction of life.
