Bio note 

Davi Kopenawa Yanomami is a shaman, author and one of the leading figures of the Yanomami people. Honorary President of the Hutukara Yanomami Association (HAY), he is internationally recognised for his struggle in defence of the Yanomami Indigenous Territory and against illegal gold mining. Together with the anthropologist Bruce Albert, he is the author of the following works: ‘The Falling Sky: Words of a Yanomami Shaman’, ‘O Espírito da Floresta’ [The Spirit of the Forest] and ‘Në Rope – Economia da Natureza Viva’ [Në Rope - The Economy of Living Nature].

His life’s work has earned him the UN Global 500 Award (1988), the Right Livelihood Award, known as the ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’ (2019), the Order of Rio Branco (1999) and the French Legion of Honour (2025). His struggle inspires peoples and communities to build a world where the forest remains alive and the sky does not fall. A world that, as he teaches, will be healthy and stable only if we learn to dream big.
