About

Health policies aim to protect and improve health by ensuring equal access to health care, however, what are the experiences of black and afrodescendant women in Portugal in health care settings? What has changed in the way the female subject is viewed in Portuguese health contexts? Recent studies show the need to deconstruct the colonial and (cis)hetero-patriarchal legacies in order to guarantee a humanised relationship with the patient.

Based on the contributions brought by associations working with black or afrodescendant women, this session aims to present reflections on racism in health contexts today, especially in the field of sexual and reproductive health. We will also seek to create a dialogue about what can be done to sensitise health professionals to good practice as well as the general population.
