This seminar critically examines the current legal framework of intellectual property. In the era of artificial intelligence and the knowledge economy, intellectual property rights raise crucial questions about access, control, and ownership of information and creativity. Contrary to what one might assume, the world is not only witnessing an increase in the volume of knowledge, but also a substantial transformation in how that knowledge is produced, appropriated, and utilized. Traditionally associated with individual creativity, intellectual property rights have evolved into a commodity of great strategic value for businesses and corporations. Often presented as essential for fostering innovation, in the 21st-century economy intellectual property rights primarily serve dominant interests, with direct consequences on political processes and contemporary democracies. By questioning their role in the current context, this seminar seeks to promote reflections towards a fairer and more inclusive formulation of intellectual property.
