Round-table Series
Palestine/Israel: Past, Present and Future
14, 21 December 2023 | 4, 11, 18 , 25 January 2024 || 2.30 pm (GMT)
Online
Seventy-five years have passed since the Nakba, the “catastrophe” that saw 15,000 people killed and more than 750,0000 displaced, marking the beginning of what is known as one of the longest armed conflicts in history, involving Israel, Palestine, and their neighboring countries. Yet, the events of October 7 were mainly received as if detached from the long history of violence characterizing both Israel’s military occupation and settlement of territory, and the broader regional context, alongside the various forms of resistance undertaken by Palestinians. In contrast to this mainstream representation, this seminar series purposely addresses the historical dimensions, as well as the sociocultural and geopolitical factors underlying the current escalation of violence in occupied Palestine, Israel and bordering states. Combining an insightful general overview with specific topics often disregarded by mainstream discussions, this seminar series wishes to widen our understanding of Palestine and Israel and deepen a most urgent debate.
Each seminar will strive to guarantee a free and informed debate, involving short presentations by multiple speakers, moderation by CES researchers, and a Q&A session with participants.
