The Gender Workshop aims to continue its "Feminist Talks" with people from various areas of intervention and work in gender equality, and women's dignity and well-being in Portugal and Spain. This talk will focus on music and youth cultures based on the work of Paula Guerra and Inês Nascimento Rodrigues


Bio notes

Paula Guerra holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Porto (FLUP). She is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto and an Integrated Researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the same university (IS-UP). Member of the Scientific Committee of the Master in Sociology at the University of Porto, she is also part of other international research centres: Associate Researcher in Centre for Geography and Spatial Planning Studies (CEGOT); CITCEM – Transdisciplinary Research Centre «Culture, Space and Memory» and Dinâmia’CET - Iscte IUL; Adjunct Associate Professor of the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research (GCSCR). Invited International Researcher of the Post-Graduate Programme in Sociology by the Fluminense Federal University (PPGS-UFF), in the research group History, Culture and Subjectivity of the Piauí Federal University and University of Brasília (Brazil); Invited Researcher in the Post-graduate Programme in Communication of the Pernambuco Federal University (PPGCOM-UFPE) and in the Music and Audiovisual Analysis Laboratory of the Pernambuco Federal University (L.A.M.A). She is the coordinator of the network Todas as Artes: Rede Luso-Afro-Brasileira de Sociologia da Cultura e das Artes [All the Arts: Luso-Afro-Brazilian Network of the Sociology of Culture and the Arts]. She is a member of the Interdisciplinary Network for the Study of Subcultures, Popular Music and Social Change and of the Research Network Sociology of the Arts of the European Sociological Association. She has been a visiting Professor/Researcher at several international universities (Morocco, Vietnam, Timor, Australia, Italy, Poland, Belgium, Canada and Spain - among others). Paula Guerra's research interests include popular music, cultures and Do It Yourself (DIY) careers, subcultures and post-subcultures, critical social theory, sociological theories, qualitative research methodologies, underground music and music scenes, authenticity, aura and charisma in the arts, cultural fields, art worlds, film, performance. She is the coordinator and founder of the KISMIF Conference and coordinator of the Secção Temática Arte, Cultura e Comunicação da Associação Portuguesa de Sociologia [Thematic Section on Arts, Culture and Communication of the Portuguese Sociology Association]. Founder and director of the scientific journal Todas as Artes. Revista Lusófona de Arte e Cultura.

Inês Nascimento Rodrigues is a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and vice-coordinator of the Trauma Observatory. She holds a PhD in Sociology, focusing on Postcolonialism and Global Citizenship, and her research focuses on memory studies, postcolonial theories, representations of violence and the cultural history of forced labour. Her most recent publication is Remembering the Liberation Struggles in Cape Verde: A Mnemohistory (coauthored by Miguel Cardina, 2022). She is a reviews editor and a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Práticas da História. Journal on Theory, Historiography and Uses of the Past, and is a member of the Editorial Board of e-cadernos CES. She is a member of Rádio Universidade de Coimbra (RUC) and a DJ in her spare time.
