This seminar aims to discuss the results of the Study, funded by Camões, I.P., which aims to provide Portuguese Cooperation with clues and tools for a more effective inclusion of Gender Equality in the pursuit of strategies, programmes and projects in the field of Development Cooperation.
It will present an analysis of post-2015 advances and setbacks in efforts to integrate the Gender Equality agenda into development cooperation policies, in the wake of the Evaluation of the Strategy for the Promotion of Gender Equality in Portuguese Cooperation (2018), as well as recommendations and tools to enhance the integration of Gender Equality in Portuguese Cooperation.
Bio notes
Rita Santos is a junior researcher at the Centre for Social Studies. She is a PhD candidate in International Politics and Conflict Resolution at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra. She holds a Master's degree in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford, UK. Over the last fifteen years she has worked on nine research projects in the fields of Feminism, International Relations and Security Studies; violence, gender and small arms; the Women, Peace and Security agenda; and otherness and media and political representations of migrants, refugees and “other insiders”. She has also participated in and/or coordinated studies and trainings for think tanks and inter/national NGOs such as AKTO (Portugal), NOREF (Norway), SWEFOR (Sweden), Promundo-USA (now Equimundo), and carried out evaluation work and policy support for Instituto Promundo (Brazil), Plataforma Portuguesa das ONGD, and Instituto Camões (Portugal). Her current research interests relate to International Relations feminism and Security Studies; violence, gender and firearms; the international agenda on Women, Peace and Security; and gender equality and development cooperation.
Sílvia Roque is Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University of Évora and researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. She holds a PhD in International Relations and has worked on research projects in the field of International Relations, particularly in the area of Peace Studies. Among her current research interests are studies on Gender, Feminism and International Relations including development cooperation policies.
