Sexual work and cooperatives: controversies and possibilities in the light of existential equality

Overview

This seminar aims to discuss the possibility of organising sex workers in labour cooperatives as an alternative to sexual exploitation and as a self-protective model against human trafficking, based on the analysis of the them on an international level, considering the experiences of New Zealand and Uruguay, as well as the norm contained in art. 174, §2, of the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, as an instrument of valorization of human work, from recognition to free initiative, meeting the existential assumptions of equality.


Bio note

Bárbara Natália Lages Lobo is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. She is a guest lecturer in the Graduate Programme in Law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). She is a PhD and Master in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais. Author of the book "O Direito à Igualdade na Constituição Brasileira" (2013) - 2nd edition (2016). Her research concerns the following topics: Constitutional Law; Politics; Genre; Prostitution; Equality.
