Short biography

Jean-Louis Laville is a sociologist and economist, Professor at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM). After being researcher and director of a CNRS laboratory, he continued his research activity on economical sociology at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire pour la Sociologie Economique (LISE, CNRS-CNAM, Paris). He is also the European coordinator of the Karl Polanyi Institute of Political Economy. He has a wide academic production, internationally renowned, on Solidarity Economy, editing book series focused on Brazil, France and Italy. Some of his recent publications are: Dictionnaire de l’autre économie, (Desclée de Brower, 2005), with A.D. Cattani; The Third Sector in Europe (Edward Elgar, 2004), with A. Evers; Action publique et économie solidaire (Erès, 2005), with other authors; Sociologie des Services (Erès, 2005); and Politique de l´Association (Éd. du Seuil, 2010).
