Abstract

In this presentation, we will discuss the terms and implications of the “Alcora Agreement”, an alliance, never publicly recognized, established between Portugal, South Africa and Rhodesia during the Colonial War.

Biographic Note

Aniceto Afonso is an Army Reserve Colonel. As a military man, he went on missions in Angola (1969-1971) and Mozambique (1973-1975). He holds a Master's Degree in Portuguese Contemporary History, and, from 1993 to 2007, he was the director of the Military Historical Archive. Currently, he is a member of the Portuguese Military History Commission and researcher at the Contemporary History Institute of the New University of Lisbon. He has a several published works about the Colonial War, namely "Os Anos da Guerra Colonial (2009 and 2010) "Guerra Colonial - Angola, Guiné, Moçambique" (1997-1998 and 2000), both with Carlos de Matos Gomes. He also collaborated in "História de Portugal" (1993) and "História Contemporânea de Portugal" (1986), both organized by João Medina.
