Amit Singh awarded the Nordic Mela Peace Award 2025
Amit Singh, a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), has been awarded the Nordic Mela Peace Award 2025, in recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion of human rights, democracy, and intercommunal harmony in South Asia.
The Swedish organisation Mela Nordic,, responsible for granting the award, justified its decision by highlighting his "outstanding commitment and dedication to the promotion of peace and social cohesion, human rights and freedom for all, as well as his efforts in defending freedom of expression and strengthening democratic values in the South Asian region."
Mela Nordic is a cultural organisation dedicated to the promotion of South Asian artistic and social expressions, headquartered in the Nordic region of Europe. Established in 2025 by a collective of South Asian citizens living in Sweden, the organisation emerged from a perceived lack of visibility of South Asian culture and art in the Nordic context. Its mission is to raise global awareness of critical issues such as human rights and political challenges in the region, while also celebrating the cultural and artistic diversity of the subcontinent.
