Sexual justice and gender in exceptional times: impacts of the pandemic on LGBTQI + people

Ana Cristina Santos

Abstract

Human rights cannot sit on the sidelines of the health emergency. To avoid exacerbating discrimination, it is important to identify threats, protect rights and respect sexual and gender diversity. This is an urgency that binds us transversally. More than ever, Social Sciences and especially Sociology and Gender Studies, play an essential role in interpreting reality and contributing to inform political decision-making. A reflection by Ana Cristina Santos, PhD in Gender Studies and Principal Investigator at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, Coordinator in Portugal of the European projects CILIA LGBTQI+ and Diversity and Childhood.
