Room 2, CES | Alta
This seminar aims to establish connections between research projects developed across different doctoral programmes that place black women at the crossroads of precarious living conditions, underemployment and social vulnerability. Drawing on research experiences in Brazil and Portugal, we will discuss theoretical approaches focused on the analysis of racial capitalism and neoliberal legal-political architecture to understand the place of impoverished black women in certain jobs, such as in the cleaning sector, domestic work, and personal care.
The seminar also seeks to highlight, from a critical racial perspective, the practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the most diverse areas of the social sphere and how their developments impact the experiences of black women in the diaspora. Analytical frameworks such as Escrevivência, a concept developed by writer Conceição Evaristo (1994), and the racial precariousness of work will be discussed.
Moderator: Silvia Maeso (CES)
