Roundtable
Autocratisation and democratic resistance in institutional brasilian disputes
October 21, 2026, 14h00
Online event
This event aims to discuss the crisis of constitutionalism through the lens of autocratisation and resistance dynamics within State structures. The panel will foster dialogue on how institutions respond to the spread of disinformation and the complex interplay between populism and liberalism, viewing these as arenas of contestation in the face of the challenges posed by crises of representation.
The aim is to examine institutional resilience and map out how struggles for political hegemony shape the effectiveness and legitimacy of constitutional norms today, drawing on contributions from researchers with distinguished careers in complementary fields.
The debate brings together perspectives from Legal Theory and Constitutional Jurisprudence, Constitutionalism and Social Participation, and Democratic Theories, analysing how populism and contemporary political narratives manifest. Complementing this analysis are studies on Human Rights and New Technologies, with an emphasis on regulating platforms and combating disinformation, as well as research on Citizenship and Social Inclusion, which seeks to identify institutional pathways to ensure democratic integrity and protect the public sphere.
Moderator: Cristiano Gianolla (CES)
