FILM SESSION

ParaDocma | Session 8: «Elogio ao 1/2» by Pedro Sena Nunes

June 21, 2024, 18h30

Casa da Esquina (Coimbra)

In this session, we look at the SAAL project, specifically the most famous of them all, the 25 de Abril quarter in Meia Praia, 30 years later through the eyes of the people who still live there and director Pedro Sena Nunes. The director will attend this session.

Bairro 25 de Abril da Meia-Praia lies between the beach and the railway line that takes us to the city of Lagos. It started as a collection of huts offhandedly built by “Indians” from Monte Gordo who just wanted to survive the golden dream that Lagos could not fulfil. After 25 April, and through the architectural plan Serviço de Apoio Ambulatório Local (S.A.A.L.), the huts were transformed into houses built by the inhabitants themselves. Many of the political promises made thirty years ago remain unfulfilled. What is it like to live in Meia-Praia today?
