Lecture on International Law and Palestine

Palestine: the tomb of international law?

Francesca Albanese (Relatora Especial da ONU)

October 4, 2024, 14h30

Auditorium, Faculty of Economics - UC + Live streaming

This lecture, given by Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, is organised by FEUC's International Relations Centre and is the inaugural activity of the recently created Luís Moita Chair in Peace and International Relations. It is also part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Doctoral Programme in International Relations - International Politics and Conflict Resolution (FEUC/CES).

This lecture takes on added relevance given the current humanitarian and human rights crisis in the region, triggered by the Israeli military incursion into the Gaza Strip in response to the terrorist attack carried out by Hamas on Israeli territory. The event will provide a crucial reflection on the importance of human rights and international law, including international humanitarian law, at a time when these principles are being openly questioned on the global stage.

Moderator: Daniela Nascimento (FEUC/CES)
