About

The cartographic processes of collectives or social movements are linked to or are the effect of social, cultural and cognitive practices, stemming from territorial memories and knowledges. They shape creative and proactive scenarios, claiming the diversity of knowledges and strengthening political stakes that counteract the intervention and transformation of the forms of social life and the effects of power that fall on communities. In the framework of a more just and diverse society, cartography in the hands of these actors raises territorial disputes, but also challenges the foundations of Western scientific knowledge. The workshop will present three cartographic practises in Latin America that inform us of the coexistence of knowledges, which do not forget or ignore the prevailing scientific knowledge, but rather bring into critical dialogue the various ways of knowing and valuing life, space, subjects, communities and their economic, cultural and political practises. Exploring the forms of production and valuation of knowledge deployed in this type of cartographies, situates the reflection in the debate on diversity and epistemic justice in the framework of the geographies of knowledge.

Bio note

César Andrés Ospina Mesa | Visiting Doctoral Students at CES. Philosopher and Master in Cultural Studies. Professor at the Institute of Regional Studies of the University of Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia. His research interests are: critical cartographies, geographies of knowledge, culture and power. His doctoral research seeks to understand cartographic practises and their relationship with epistemic diversity in Latin America.
