International Colloquium

Feminist Ecologies of Knowledges and the Right to Education

May 3 and 11, 2023, 15h00-19h00 (GMT+1)

Online Event > Registrations until May 1

Feminist Ecologies of Knowledges are based on Boaventura de Sousa Santos' theoretical premise that there is no social justice without cognitive justice. This ecology questions all sociological imaginations that do not deal with sexist sociabilities, from the most apparent to the most subtle, which feed and reinforce discrimination and oppression against those who represent themselves as feminine.

With a critical approach to the concept of gender and the right to education and within the scope of the CES Epistemologies of the South Working Group and the Feminist Ecologies of Knowledges network, this colloquium's main objective is to discuss some theoretical issues and share education practises, both formal and non-formal, as instruments for the prevention, mitigation and eradication of different types of violence and the empowerment of the different identities that represent themselves as feminine. From different theoretical and territorial approaches, researchers and activists from different countries and continents will analyse three main themes: (1) The right to education and vulnerable groups; (2) The right to justice: pedagogies against gender violence; and (3) Non-formal education and critical pedagogies.

The Colloquium will be online and takes place over two days to accommodate the speakers’ different time zones and consists of five talks:
