About

Using a postcolonial and gendered, not necessarily binary, approach, this seminar will focus on sharing the results of a doctoral research conducted with people of different age groups self-identified within a wide range of sexual dissidences that intersect with another of the invisible zones of non-being, that of the systematically precarious indigenous worlds, in this case the Mayan peoples of south-eastern Mexico. The research was carried out in rural Mayan communities and two urban centres with a strong colonial past in the highlands of Chiapas and the Yucatan Peninsula. The study reflects the creation of particular ways of existing, fighting, loving and living the fluid sexualities of contemporary Maya.
