Symposium

Mental health and solidarity economy: experiences in Brazil and Portugal

September 15 and 16, 2022, 14h00-17h00

Keynes Room, Faculty of Economics - UC + Online

About

This event aims to present and discuss cooperative forms of socio-labour inclusion for people in mental distress, in the field of mental health care. A comparison is made between Brazil and Portugal, in terms of the psychiatric reform process and the adoption of associativism in mental health services (public and civil society initiatives). An attempt is made to assess its impact on the sustainability of the experiences, in addition to state resources, which show a tendency for progressive retraction with the adoption of neoliberal policies. It also seeks to present and discuss practices of reference for the construction of the autonomy of citizens who are users of the mental health system, in search of a more qualified insertion at work, through cooperative self-management.

The symposium is organised in collaboration between the Research Group ECOSOL-UNISINOS and the Ecology and Society Lab - Ecosol-CES and under the CES/UNISINOS agreement.
