Seminar

Planning to develop: current international experiences

February 22, 2022, 17h00

Auditório J.J. Laginha (Edifício Sedas Nunes, canto NE, piso 1), ISCTE - IUL (Lisboa)

Overview

According to a recent study (Chimhowu et al.,2019), the number of countries with national development plans more than doubled since the turn of the century, corresponding to more than 80% of the world population. The practises of planning and conception of economic strategies are today common in several countries. This seminar will present and debate the various national experiences, focusing on institutional arrangements, in the role of public administration, in the practises of participation and in the commitment of public actors. The seminar will also discuss the impacts of planning and the definition of economic strategies in the quality of public policies and in the structural change of economies.

This is the second of the series of thematic seminars «Public and Democratic Planning Initiative»- that intend to build a sustained reflection on issues of planning.
