About
Under the motto "Feminist Talks", the XII edition of the Gender Workshop Series proposes a series of talks with people from different areas of intervention and work in the field of gender equality and women's dignity and well being in Portugal and Galicia. In this session, we will talk with Ana Barata, based on her work.
Bio notes
Ana Barata | Young feminist born in Sertã. She has a degree in Social Work from the University of Coimbra and has been researching the participation of the population in the design, implementation and evaluation of local social policies in the municipality of Sertã as part of her Master's in Social Policy at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She has participated several times in the UN Commission on the Status of Women and is part of a network of the International Grail, in which she develops a leadership programme to build a network of empowered young women able to promote sustainable and transformative changes in their communities, founded on shared leadership and the process of individual and collective reflection-action. It advocates education that enables individual and collective reflection processes for a greater awareness of the social injustices and inequalities present in different communities.
Sandra Silvestre is a community animator, coordinator of socio-educational projects, trainer and consultant in the area of gender equality and social and solidarity economy.
Her path is very much marked by AJPaz - Action for Justice and Peace, an NGOD where she started her practical training, but also by networks such as the World March of Women and Animar - Portuguese Association for Local Development. She has dedicated herself to citizenship projects, participatory democracy, equality and human rights. She highlights, more recently, the work with the Group Aprender em Festa (Gouveia), entity of which she is part, and in the initiative Roteiro Cidadania em Portugal promoted by ANIMAR - Portuguese Association for Local Development with the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality.
She is a trainer, especially in themes related with Gender Equality and with methodologies of non-formal education, and she has worked with numerous entities throughout the central region. She is a social activist and collaborates with Casa da Esquina, CES/Grupo das Ecologias Feministas de Saberes, ESEC, specifically in the area of Animação Socioeducativa, among others. She was also a cultural producer in TEUC, Teatrão, JACC and parliamentary advisor.
She has a degree in International Relations from FEUC, with specialised training in Education for Human Rights (EYCB/COE) and is currently doing her master's in Social Intervention, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FPCEUC/FEUC).
