Overview

How much does geography matter in access to health for LGBTIQ+ people? What differences exist between the experiences of those who live in an urban context and those who live in the interior of Portugal? Does this division between urban and rural still make sense when we talk about LGBTIQ+ communities?

The differences between urban communities in the biggest cities (Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra) and the communities in the interior unfold in many directions: through this dialogue between activism and academia, we want to focus attention on the difficulties and obstacles that generate inequalities for the LGBTIQ+ community (and within it) from a reflection on spaces, territories and access opportunities.

In this Sharp Talk, which marks the international day of the fight against Homophobia and Transphobia, we want to bring a reflection on the different aspects that influence the experiences of the LGBTIQ+ community in various areas of Portugal, with a specific look on the access to health and activism. Eduarda Ferreira, researcher at CICS.NOVA - NOVA FCSH (Lisbon); Joana Brilhante, PATH activist and PhD student in Human Rights, will be present.
