Overview

The Subsistema de Atenção à Saúde dos Povos Indígenas (SASISUS) [Subsystem Attention to Health of Indigenous Peoples] is an achievement of the indigenous peoples who demanded access to the Unified Health System with a differentiated attention regarding their cultural specificities and contexts of life, With the legal creation of SASISUS, indigenous participation has become  increasingly institutionalised in the Indigenous Health District Councils (CONDISI), CONDISI Presidents Forum and National Indigenous Health Conferences. However, the proceedings and reports of these spaces demonstrate a more effective response to the management’s agenda and do not present space for discussion on how this health in indigenous villages should be. Thus, indigenous peoples seek other ways of voicing their need for another form of organising their health.
