Framework

The series "Dialogues and perspectives on the urban", that during the last 3 semesters involved researchers from the Cities, Cultures, and Architecture Research Group | CCArq, illustrating the disciplinary diversity that distinguishes and characterises this research group, is now approaching the end. The seven previous talks have already brought together sociology, architecture, anthropology and art history around themes that connect them, such as city, heritage, art, and travel.

However, the contribution of Social and Human Sciences continues to be misunderstood on the part of the community in general (and sometimes even the academic world), as regards to the scope of their research, their objects of study, as well as methodologies that articulate and the real impact it can offer to science and society.

Research in Architecture, particularly in relation to other areas of urban studies and urban and territorial planning, but also in history, theory and cultural studies, represents an opportunity to explore a universe of interdisciplinary articulations that will certainly bring renewed opportunities for scientific and societal development, a cliché today so present in the language of scientific goals. Since the number of architects, who are also CCARQ researchers, is high, we propose, from the areas of interest of each one of the participants, a reflection on the relationship of Architecture and in particular of research in Architecture, with Social and Human Sciences.

Without conditioning the free evolution of the conversation, we suggest either looking at them as research tools, either in the sense of understanding the autonomy of the subject or in the benefit of developing research in a multidisciplinary centre such as CES.
