Seminar Room (2nd Floor), CES-Coimbra

Abstract

In an increasingly globalized world, several social movements have been searching for action forms which guarantee the necessary efficiency and union to achieve similar goals based on the creation of strategic alliances. In this context, the LGBT movement in the Southern Cone (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay) created the "Mercosul LGBT Network", aiming at a bigger visibility and pressure, not only within their countries but also throughout the whole region. In this seminar, we will address the first impressions about this network's constitution, the involved agents, the occasional obstacles and the goals that drive this international network. With this perspective from the South, we hope to contribute with relevant considerations to the Iberian context.
