Women belong in the Mocambo

This session aims to explore the category of space in feminist historiography and in the history of ideas, based on an intercontinental episode from the 17th century whose religious sources are part of the “Do Women Care?” Collection, led by the author and hosted by the Institute of Philosophical Studies of the University of Coimbra.
After studying philosophy in Coimbra, Joana Serrado concluded a PhD in Christianity and History of Ideas, in Groningen, researching Portuguese Baroque mysticism and philosophical feminism. Serrado has taught in Oslo, Oxford, Cambridge, and, since 2020), at the University of Chemnitz, where she is Assistant Professor of the Chair in Iberian Studies. Her most recent publication is the Discovery of Anxiousness (Transcript/Columbia University Press, 2023).
