Synopsis

The first chapter, «Revolução, paradigma, dissidência» [Revolution, paradigm, dissent], reflects on the history of the idea of revolution and the contemporary avatars of its dynamics and rhythms. The second, «A construção do Outubro Vermelho» [The construction of the Red October], deals more objectively with the Russian Revolution, its history and its interpretation. The third chapter, «Edificação, violência, centralismo» [Edification, violence, centralism], follows three of the elements that helped to compose that paradigm and enabled its imposition. In the fourth, called «Os artistas e os intelectuais» [Artists and intellectuals], mentions the importance of building an autonomous «communist culture», endowed with long ballast and with a strong international dimension.

In the fifth chapter, «Percursos da crítica e da alternativa» [Paths of criticism and of alternative], itineraries, questions and adaptations of the model are followed, in the perspective of the path to socialism as an integrating process of diversity. Finally, in the sixth chapter, «Dissidências e novos horizontes» [Dissidences and new horizons], exemplary cases of organic and intellectual divergence are presented in the field of the left in relation to the predominant paradigm in literature, mainly after the second post-war period, of the emancipatory impact of the October Revolution, as well as the reflux of its prestige during the «long sixties» and after 1989.
