Overview

The retelling of the history of almost forgotten past pandemics can result in the recovery of experiences necessary to face current challenges. In this article Carl Kurlander recovers the history of the polio epidemics in the first decades of the twentieth century in the United States and of the collective effort to develop a viable vaccine by the Jonas Salk team developed in 1955 to trace parallels and similarities, and to point out potential directions and clues on how to manage the Covid-19 pandemic and set a path for its future eradication.
