Livia C. Almendary


Biography

PhD student in Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship at the Center for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, Portugal; holds a master's degree in Anthropology (PUC-SP) and a bachelor's degree in Journalism (PUC-SP) and History (USP). She was a researcher for the CNPq research group "Images, Metropolises, and Youth Cultures," linked to CNPq and the Childhood and Youth Working Group of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), from 2018 to 2021. She is co-founder and advisor of Taturana Cinema and Social Impact, an institute that democratizes access to cinema and enhances it as a tool for education, training, and social impact. She also works as a communicator and educator, and performs editorial activities - research, translation, writing, and editing - within organizations and social movements, magazines, and publishers. Since 2017, she has been researching the intersections between Latin American youth, audiovisual media, documentary films, and visibility politics, based on decolonial perspectives and Cultural Studies. She has teaching experience as a popular educator in social movements and has taught classes, given lectures, and conducted workshops and short courses related to cinema and social impact.
