Framework
Cloths that speak is a proposal to build knowledge from the fabrics used in Africa by women and men in their practical and aesthetic dimensions. This workshop proposes to conduct an ecology of the knowledges joining academic knowledges and popular knowledges and using the cloths as if they were a library.
In the first part of this workshop, "Bugs, flowers and other messages", the intention is to collectively read and interpret the prints and perceive what is being said to the world. In the second part of this workshop, "Colours, Uses and Senses", in addition to the contextualisation of the use of fabrics as adornment in Africa, we will put knowledge into practice by learning and making turbans.
We will finish the workshop with a photo shoot and a pageant where the cloths-knowledge are the protagonists.
If you have capulanas or other cloths at home bring them and take home your own turban.
