The European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS) launched a pan-European cohort study with the aim of exploring the relationships between COVID-19 related risk and protective factors, stressors, and symptoms of adjustment disorder.
Following a conceptual framework based on the WHO’s social framework of health, an assessment of risk and protective factors, COVID-19 related stressors and pandemic-specific coping behavior were measured to estimate their contribution to symptoms of adverse adjustment (ADNM-8). The study also aimed to investigate whether these relationships were moderated by coping behaviors. Participants were assessed by an online survey longitudinally at three time points, with an interval of six months.
From June 2020 to December 2021, 11 ESTSS member societies collected data from 15,563 adults in 11 European countries (Austria, Croatia, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden).
