Bio notes

José Carlos Rocha | Born in 1973 in Porto, where he studied Clinical Psychology and did a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Psychology), supervised by Prof Constança Paúl. He trained in cognitive-narrative psychotherapies with Prof Óscar Gonçalves.
Since 1997, Rocha has focused on clinical and research work in the psychology of trauma and bereavement, starting with perinatal bereavement. Rocha has reached a leading European position as a member of the scientific committee of the European Meeting for Psychosocial Aspects of Genetics. He has developed projects to adapt scales for assessing bereavement, traumatic stress for children and adults, and complex traumatic stress in adults. At the same time, he has developed cognitive-narrative intervention manuals in various bereavement contexts that have been empirically validated. Today he leads the Trauma Sensitive Contexts Training and Certification project.
Rocha was coordinator of the clinical research area at CESPU, where he founded a research group in Psychology and Health. He is the founder and clinical director of the Centre for the Psychology of Trauma and Bereavement, CPTL.
At European level, he has implemented several train-the-trainers courses, is the founder of the Bereavement Network Europe, is the national representative of the European Association of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Treatments and a member of the International Trauma Consortium.
