Bio notes

Luísa Sales | Psychiatrist with the rank of Senior Hospital Assistant. She is a Didactic Therapist for the Portuguese Psychodrama Society and, since 2008, a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra. She co-founded the Trauma Centre (2008), now known as the Trauma Observatory/CES, which she coordinated until 2023. Between 2011-2013 and 2013-2015, she was elected to the Board of Directors of ESTSS (European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies).
Since 2017, she has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the MDN's Resource Centre for Stress in a Military Context and, during the pandemic, she was part of the Crisis Office for Covid 19 of the Portuguese Medical Association.
She has maintained scientific interests in the areas of psychiatric and psychosocial intervention in crisis, post-traumatic stress and psychological pathologies in ex-combatants. She runs psychodrama therapy groups with victims of traumatic stress and has participated in European research projects linked to the structuring of psychosocial networks and post-disaster therapeutic interventions.
Sales coordinated the Psychiatry team in the innovative project "Children of the Colonial War: postmemory and representations" (FCT/CES), under the responsibility of Margarida Calafate Ribeiro and has been a member of the ADJUST consortium (pan-European research group on stress factors and their consequences during the Covid 19 pandemic) since its inception (2020). She has developed and published research on psychological trauma, traumatic stress and therapeutic interventions, as well as on issues of the intergenerational transmission of trauma. She organised and published the book Psiquiatría de Catástrofe e Intervenção na Crise (Disaster Psychiatry and Crisis Intervention) (Almedina, 2007).
Since 2012, she has organised and coordinated the first 4 editions of the General Training Course in Psychotraumatology of the Trauma Observatory/CES, certified by the ESTSS.

 

Paula Coutinho | Doctor specialising in Pulmonology and Intensive Care Medicine. She is an intensivist at the Intensive Care Medicine Department of the Coimbra Hospital and University Centre (CHUC). Coordinator of the CHUC Covid Intensive Care Unit during the first year of the pandemic. She is a member of the Board of the College of Intensive Care Medicine of the Portuguese Medical Association.
