CONTENTS

Approaches to specific populations: adolecents; refugees, security forces; victims of domestic violence. 

Each trainer will give a presentation of around 40-45 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of discussion.

Ângela da Costa Maia
Ângela da Costa Maia holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Minho (UM) and teaches at the Department of Applied Psychology of the School of Psychology of UM. She is Vice-President of the School and for several years she belonged to the board of the International Society of Behavioral Medicine. Coordinates the Laboratory on Victims, Offenders, and the Justice System of the Research Centre for Psychology at UM. She has collaborated and coordinated several research projects in the area of trauma, justice, and violence, being author or co-author of many publications on these themes. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Military Stress Resource Centre (in Context) of the Ministry of Defence and has coordinated several projects with funding from the Regional Health Administration of the North, the Ministry of Internal Administration, and the Ministry of Justice. She is the coordinator of the Trauma Consultation at the Psychology Association (APsi), University of Minho.

Celina Manita
Celina Manita, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology and senior researcher at the University of Porto, Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences. She has conducted several studies in the field of crime, violence, and victimisation (domestic violence, child abuse, sexual violence), judicial decision-making, therapeutic change/change processes, forensic assessment, among others. She is the current director of GEAV – office for Studies and Assistance to Aggressors and Victims of the University of Porto, which provides treatment to several types of aggressors, including sexual aggressors, and also forensic evaluation to courts. She is a psychologist and psychotherapist and forensic expert with hundreds of forensic psychological assessments done for the courts. She is a member of national and international professional associations in the fields of psychology, criminology, and forensic science. She has published and lectured widely on these fields, including assessment and intervention with offenders.

Rafaela Lopes
Degree and Master in Psychology, specialising in clinical, systemic, health, and family psychology from the University of Coimbra. Ph.D. student in Applied Psychology at the University of Minho developing research on the impact of exposure to trauma in voluntary firefighters and their families. Clinical Psychologist in the Municipality of Oleiros where she has developed a bereavement support programme. Psychologist in the Psychosocial Support Teams of the National Civil Protection Authority that provide support to firefighters, families, and other populations in crisis scenarios. Invited Assistant at the Superior School of Health of the Polytechnic of Leiria and trainer in several advanced trainings in the area of Crisis Intervention and Psychotraumatology. Specialist in Clinical Psychology and Health, Educational Psychology, and Advanced Specialities in Justice Psychology and Occupational Health Psychology. EMDR Therapist - Full Basic Training, accredited by the EMDR Portugal Association.

Rosario Suarez
She started working with vulnerable populations in 2000 in the Ministry of the Province of Salta, Argentina, I.P.V. studying simultaneously a BA in Psychology, she did a Training in Aeronautical Psychology in Buenos Aires, working in Oceano Publishing House in the area of education in deprived neighbourhoods. In Portugal, she attended the Integrated Masters in Psychology at ISPA, and has already been part of the team accompanying refugees at the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS.) In this team, she is responsible for the processes and implementation of the REACH-FOR Reconciliation model with Dr. Ángela Ordóñez (Spain). She has completed a post-graduate course in Mental Health for Psychological Interventions with Immigrants, minorities, and socially excluded people with Dr. Achotegui (Spain). Under the supervision of Dr. Bruno Brito, she was responsible for the mental health screening and follow-up processes. In 2020 she took over the coordination of the Mental Health Office of JRS Portugal.
