Following the research work, TOLERACE has organised 17 participatory workshops in the different national and regional contexts to discuss the academic findings and propose policy recommendations. The participatory workshops were carried out with a total of 166 participants, including policy and decision-makers, representatives of regional and local authorities, members of local associations, political activists, academics, school teachers, trade union representatives and journalists. The workshops took place in Coimbra, Lisbon, Bilbao, Seville, Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin and Leeds.
The following main issues have been discussed:
- the relation between integration and inclusion policies and the historical roots of racism; the representation of anti-racist approaches and struggles;
- the relationship between state-endorsed institutions aimed to tackle racism and racial discrimination, and anti-racist grassroots movements;
- the monitoring of racial and ethnic inequalities in the spheres of employment and education;
- the understanding of institutional racism in contemporary European democracies; anti-racism and immigration legislation.
