Ana Cristina Santos

Ana Cristina Santos is a Sociologist. She holds a PhD in Gender Studies, University of Leeds, UK. She is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, and Honorary Research Fellow at the Birkbeck Institute for Social Research, University of London.
She has been involved in a number of research projects exploring issues of gender, sexual and reproductive rights, citizenship and human rights. She is Principal Investigator of a research project on disabled women and intimate citizenship funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Co-coordinator of the International PhD Program Human Rights in Contemporary Societies and Vice-chair of the Sexuality Research Network of the European Sociological Association, Cristina is also an activist in the LGBT/queer and feminist movements in Portugal. In 2013 she was awarded a 5 year Research Grant by the European Research Council to lead a comparative study on Citizenship, Care and Choice: The micropolitics of intimacy in Southern Europe. The research involves conducting cross-national qualitative studies in Italy, Portugal and Spain on the following topics: lesbian coupledom, polyamorous relationships, assisted conception and surrogacy, naming a child, transgender and care, and living with friends in adult life.

Ana Lúcia Santos

Ana Lucia Santos holds a degree in Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Coimbra and an MA in Feminist Studies from the same university. Her topic was intersex with a thesis entitled "A sex which is many - the (im)possibility of the intersex as a human category".
Ana Lucia is a junior researcher at Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, since 2012. She is a Research Fellow in the research project "INTIMATE — Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe", funded by the European Research Council, between 2014 and 2019.  She is currently a doctoral student in Feminist Studies at the University of Coimbra.
Her research interests focus on feminist studies, intimate and sexual citizenship, crip theory and queer theory. She is also an activist in the LGBT/queer and feminist movements in Portugal. 

Beatrice Gusmano

Research fellow in the project "INTIMATE— Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe" (2014-2019), funded by the European Research Council and coordinated by Ana Cristina Santos.
She defended her PhD dissertation at the University of Trento (Italy) in 2009, with a thesis on the construction and management of non-heterosexual identities at work. She then took part to different research projects regarding LGBT local public policies in Europe and in Italy; work access networks for ex-convicts; bullying and gender education; diversity management.

Luciana Moreira Silva

Luciana Moreira Silva graduated in Portuguese Literature at the University of Coimbra. She is currently a Ph.D. student in "Human Rights in Contemporary Societies" (CES/III - University of Coimbra).
She is a junior researcher at Centre for Social Sciences, University of Coimbra, since 2009, where she worked in projects about memory, literature, colonial wars, colonialism and post colonialism until 2013.
Since 2014, she holds a position as Research fellow in the project "INTIMATE— Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe" (2014-2019), funded by the European Research Council. Her current research interests are: intimate and sexual citizenship, queer theory; feminist studies and cultural studies. She is also an activist in the LGBT/queer and feminist movements in Portugal.

Pablo Pérez Navarro

 Pablo Navarro holds a doctoral degree in Philosophy. His thesis focused on the concept of performativity in Judith Butler´s work, and he is is the author of a book on the same topic (Del texto al sexo. Judith Butler y la performatividad, Egales, Madrid, 2008). He carried out a postdoctoral research at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he teached the course "Sexo, género e identidad. Introducción a la teoría queer (Sex, Gender and Identity. An Introduction to Queer Theory)". His recent work has addressed issues like queer masculinities, the use of performance in social movements, queer activism and radical politics of the street. Nowadays, he is a research fellow at the project "INTIMATE - Cidadania, Cuidado e Escolha: A Micropolítica da Intimidade na Europa do Sul".

Tatiana Motterle

Research fellow in the project "INTIMATE— Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe" (2014-2019), funded by the European Research Council and coordinated by Ana Cristina Santos.
She defended her PhD dissertation in Social Sciences in 2014 at the University of Padua (Italy).
She took part in national and international research projects about Female Genital Modifications; social care and work-care balance; homophobia.

Mafalda Esteves

Research Manager in the project "INTIMATE — Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe".

She holds a degree in Psychology at the University of Coimbra and a MA in Psychossocial Intervention at University of Barcelona and she is currently a PhD student in Psychology (CIS/ISCTE-IUL).
She integrated for many years the group of Studies in Cultural, Community and Political Psychology (GEPCCiP-Barcelona) where she develop experience in Social Psychology research, the construction of community process and empowerment and also organized many scientific events.
Recently, she was a member of a research team working on activism and social movements in Portugal at FCSH (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
She is also an activist in feminist and LGBT/queer movement and has used the Theatre of the Oppressed as method of work.

Hélia Santos

Hélia Santos was the Research Manager of INTIMATE — Citizenship, Care and Choice: The Micropolitics of Intimacy in Southern Europe (Grant nº 338452) between 2014 and 2015. She holds an MA in Sociology, "Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship", from the Centre for Social Studies and School of Economics, University of Coimbra. She is a junior researcher at CES since 2003, and has been working in project management since 2012.
