The Greek youth revolt, which burst out last December, deserved attention almost all over the world. Outbreaking as a reaction against police repression, it brought about to public debate the issue on precarity that marks the current youth condition. The similarities with other European countries provoked historical evocations of other revolts and debates regarding the possibility of this fuse detonating across the continent. Parting from the contribution of activists and social scientists, this debate, organized within the Masters and doctoral Programme in Labour Relations, Social Inequalities and Trade Unionism, School of Economics, University of Coimbra/Centre for social Studies, aims to discuss the current problematic of social conflictuality and of youth, reflecting on the significance of the happenings in Greece, but also on the experience of new precarious workers movements that have sprung out in our country. Biographic Notes: Cristina Andrade is a psychologist and co-founder of the FERVE group, Fartos dEstes Recibos Verdes. José Soeiro is a sociologist and actor at the Teatro do Oprimido. Was Member of Parliament and is a doctoral programme student at FEUC/CES within the labour and social inequalities area. Elísio Estanque holds a doctoral degree in sociology, is professor at FEUC and CES researcher, coordinates the Masters and Doctoral Programme in Labour Relations, social Inequalities and Trade Unionism. |
