PhD in Sociology (State University of New York – Binghamton), professor at the Faculty of Economics of University of Coimbra and researcher at Centre for Social Studies, Scientific Coordinator of "Cities and Urban Cultures" Master’s and Doctoral Programs, and, also, the Portuguese coordinator of Brazil-Portugal Network for Urban Studies. Author of Identidades, Percursos e Paisagens Culturais (Oeiras, Celta, 1999) and editor of Cidade, Cultura e Globalização (Oeiras, Celta, 1999), Projecto e Circunstância: Culturas Urbanas em Portugal (Porto, Afrontamento, 2002) and Plural de Cidade (Coimbra, Almedina, 2009), among several other publications.

Doctor in Social Anthropology, professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts and Human Sciences of University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, and, also, associate researcher at the Urban Anthropology Research Group of USP. Author of O Tempo das Ruas na São Paulo de Fins do Império (Edusp, 2005), among other published works.

Jorge Figueira (Dep. Architecture - Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Univ. Coimbra)
Doctor in Architecture, specialized in Theory and History (University of Coimbra). Professor at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of University of Coimbra (FCTUC) and at the doctoral program in Architecture of Faculty of Architecture of University of Porto. Editorial coordinator at the FCTUC Department of Architecture’s publishing service. Besides several studies on the fields of exhibition design and commissioning, he has published, among other works, Agora que Está Tudo a Mudar - Arquitectura em Portugal (Caleidoscópio, 2005), A Noite em Arquitectura (Relógio d´Água, 2007) and Álvaro Siza. Modern Redux (Hatje Cantz, 2008, ed.).

Rogério Proença Leite (Federal University of Sergipe)
Doctor in Social Sciences (UNICAMP), researcher at the CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), associate professor of Federal University of Sergipe (Brazil) and collaborator at the “Cities and Urban Cultures” Master’s and Doctoral programs (FEUC/CES). Brazilian coordinator of the Brazil-Portugal Network for Urban Studies and, currently, director of ANPOCS (National Association for Post-Graduation and Research in Social Sciences). He has published, among several other works, Contra-usos da Cidade (Ed. Unicamp, 2ª ed. 2007) and organized Cultura e Vida Urbana (EdUFS, 2008) and Plural de Cidade (Coimbra, Almedina, 2009).

Cultural creativity and youth in megacities

Nestor García Canclini (National Autonomous University of Mexico)
Doctor in Philosophy by the Universities of Paris and La Plata, emeritus professor at the Autonomous Metropolitan University – Iztapalapa. He was professor at the universities of Austin, Duke, Stanford, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and São Paulo. He was awarded with the Guggenheim Fellowship and Casa de las Américas literary prize, in recognition for Culturas populares en el capitalismo, and the Book Award de la Asociación de Estudios Latinoamericanos in recognition for the book Culturas híbridas. Estrategias para entrar y salir de la modernidad. Consumidores y ciudadanos, La globalización imaginada and Diferentes, desiguales y desconectados: mapas de la interculturalidad are some of his other major works.
