Women in Architecture

March 4th to 21st, 2010, Coimbra

This activity will take place in the extent of the XII Cultural Week of the University of Coimbra



Presentation

The event intends to testify, analyze and commemorate the growing presence of women in University and, particularly, in Architecture. The Project has for aim to recapitulate the presence of women in history of architecture during the 20th Century; to present the research of women architects as evidence of that presence and vitality; and to debate the public presence and the contribution of women at several levels – architecture, history, critique, research – of the Portuguese scenario. This project is set for a vast audience, while approaching the issue of the role of women in contemporary society.



The event “Women in Architecture” has 3 components:

1. COLLOQUIUM on Research projects in the field of city and architecture developed by women architects. Debates regarding “Women in Architecture” with the presence of Prof. Virgínia Ferreira, Helena Roseta, Ana Tostões, Prof. Paulo Varela Gomes, among others. To be held at the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra.

2. EXHIBITION regarding a range of personalities and their contributions at an international level, during the 20th Century, to take place at the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra.

Date and venue: March 4th to 21st, 2010, Sala de Exame Privado

3. PUBLICATION of the contents of the event “Women in Architecture”: resulting from the research and presentation of personalities in study in the international context. This publication, released during the Seminar and Exhibition, will de executed by eIdIarq, editorial service of the Department of Architecture, granting a second series of its journal – ecdj Académico.
