Higher Eductaion in the context of prison: an experience of the south in the reinvention of the prison space

Presentation

This seminar aims to present a doctoral dissertation, in execution, which approaches the issue of inclusion of convicted women, prison officers and staff from the Superintendence for Prison Services of Rio Grande do Sul –Brazil, included in a higher education training project within a women’s prison. The intention is to report the course of that relation between  higher education with the prison space; present data regarding the formal education process, incentivized by the Methodist Universiatrian Centre IPA – existing in the Female Prison  Madre Pelletier RS. The relevance of this work consists in presenting the map on exclusion of women in convict situation, the contribution that the regular education system presents towards overrunning the stigma attributed to convicted women and indicating contributions of universities towards the reinvention of the prison space as loci of construction of ecology of knowledge.

Eunice Maria Nazarethe Nonato, student of the Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences, university Vale do Rio dos Sinos – UNISINOS-RS-BRAZIL, in doctoral traineeship at CES; Professor at the Methodist Universitarian Centre IPA-RS, Researcher on the issue of education of women deprived of liberty.
