Following the "translational turn" (Bachmann-Medick), the lecture is a close re-reading of Benjamin´s essay on translation and the translator. It shall point to its relevance for advanced cultural theory (e.g. Homi K. Bhabha), but will also argue that Benjamin´s focus on the translator is too narrow to enable an understanding of the paradoxical processes of translation as a specific form of transfer and contextualisation.
