Coccia, Giancarlo (2011)

Coccia, Italian journalist, was in Pretoria when a friend called him on the phone advising him to head straight to Nampula. The eminence of a radical event was in the air: it would be the Portuguese Revolution of April 25th, 1974. At that time FRELIMO intended to put colonial war to an end. “The think-tank of the nationalist movement recognized that they were not interested in a referendum, and they were interested in force Lisbon to surrender the country to them in a silver plate. Their attitude, the lack of «cards to play» from the Portuguese side and the support communists were giving to FRELIMO were all positive assets. Their refusal to come to an agreement with «spinolists» paid high dividends”.
