Susana Martins


Biography

Susana Martins is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES, University of Coimbra), where she is developing a project entitled "From Rabat to Algiers: crossed paths between the anti-fascist struggle and the anticolonial struggle (1961 - 1974)". She is also Visiting Assistant Professor at Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa and an Research Associate at the Instituto de História Contemporânea (IHC/NOVA). She obtained her PhD in Contemporary History at the FCSH/NOVA, with a thesis on "Portuguese Exiles in Algiers. The Patriotic National Liberation Front (FPLN) from the origins to the break with Humberto Delgado (1960-1965)" (edited by Afrontamento, 2018). She is also the author of a book on "Socialists in Opposition to Estado Novo" (Casa das Letras, 2005). She has participated on the organization of several exhibitions, namely "Memory of the Tarrafal Concentration Camp" (Tarrafal, Cap Vert, 2009), "The Victims's Voice" (Aljube, Lisboa, 2011) and the permanent exhibition from the Aljube Museum - Resistance and Freedom (2015). Her research interests focus on the history of Portuguese opposition to Military Dictatorship and Estado Novo, especially on deportation, Portuguese exiles and anticolonialism.
