This seminar aims to analyse recent territorial transformations in northern Argentine Patagonia, with a particular focus on the province of Neuquén and the development of Vaca Muerta as one of the main areas of expansion for unconventional hydrocarbon extraction in Latin America. From a geographical perspective, the presentation will demonstrate how fracking not only alters areas directly linked to hydrocarbon extraction but also affects intermediate cities, urban expansion dynamics, land markets, daily mobility, infrastructure, public services, and environmental issues.
