Presentation
In recent years, professionals from different areas have been expressing significant interest in the area of Psychotraumatology. In fact, natural disasters, road accidents, widespread situations of violence are present in the daily basis of modern societies, constituting potentially traumatic events and reinstating the concept of trauma at the heart of modern psychopathology.
It is, therefore, important to promote, in a context of interdisciplinary dialogue, knowledge about prevention and intervention in psychological trauma in situations of crisis, disaster or catastrophe.
In this sense, the Trauma Centre of the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, as a Member Society of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS), will begin the III Training Course in Psychotraumatology with access to the European Certificate of Psychotraumatology, validated by ESTSS.

Objectives
1.Provide trainees with theoretical and practical knowledge in psychological trauma, particularly in post-crisis trauma, disaster or catastrophe.
2. Promote, in the area of psychological trauma, common terminologies and practices, based on scientific evidence.
3. Implement strategies for prevention, intervention, treatment in psychological trauma, in line with internationally recognized criteria.
4. To conciliate the training obtained with the curricular data necessary for the European Certificate in Psychotraumatology of the responsibility of the ESTSS.
5. Facilitate access and knowledge sharing with international intervention networks in Psychotraumatology.

Selection Criteria
Target Audience
• Professionals and students from different areas of Health and Social Sciences;
• Other professionals involved in potentially traumatic situations (elements of emergency teams, military personnel, first responders, rescuers, members of security forces, journalists, etc.).

Minimum Selection Requirements
• Higher Education, 1st Cycle of Bologna Program or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree finalist students in the referred areas, adjacent or related to psychological trauma.

Course Structure and Certification
Course Structure
The III Training Course in Psychotraumatology will be overall composed by periodic modules (workshops), organized in 6 mandatory sessions and 9 optional sessions, held alternately in CES Lisbon and CES Coimbra.
This edition of the course will begin on October 28, 2017, and will take place at CES Lisbon.
The modules are punctuated with fixed credits and subject to mandatory evaluation.

Criteria for Certification
Participants of the Training Course in Psychotraumatology wishing to apply for the ESTSS European Certificate in Psychotraumatology are required to be an ESTSS member. Trauma Centre associates are, by default, ESTSS members.
Participants who are not yet Trauma Center associates must sign up by completing an online form available at the Trauma Center website or at the workshop(s)’ registration form.
To obtain the European Certificate in Psychotraumatology participants are required to attend the 6 mandatory modules, adding on the 4 optional modules necessary to attain the 100 credit points. Each module will have a mandatory assessment through a questionnaire of 10 multiple-choice questions. The questionnaire will be made available by the Trauma Center, which will communicate to the ESTSS the results obtained by each candidate. ESTSS is responsible for recording the accumulated credit and for assigning the Certificate.
The modules are periodic, with cumulative credit of 10 points.

1. Trauma: different views, same concept? - October 28 | CES Lisbon | 09H30-19H30

Contents - Different readings of the concept of psychological Trauma.

Contents - Neurological and endocrinological impacts of psychological trauma and the neurophysiological and immunological mechanisms that link health/illness and traumatic experience.

Contents - Theoretical and practical training on psychological first aid.

7. Forensic Aspects of Trauma - April 14 | CES Coimbra | 09H30-19H30

Contents - Medical-legal expertise in psychological trauma and its implications for civil and criminal liability. The complexity of the evaluation of psychic damages following traumatic injuries. Civil and criminal law and the (ir)relevance of trauma. Induced memories / false memories.

Contents - Psychosocial care plans after disaster. Role of the various post-disaster actors in the short, medium and long-term. Scientific evidence of the effectiveness of critical incident management approaches.

Contents - The media as first responders. Signs and symptoms of trauma in journalists. Understanding the trauma experienced by news media. Understanding communication skills required for the treatment of communication professionals. Culture of trauma in terms of image.

10. Trauma of the Professionals: Personal Growth, Burnout and Secondary Trauma- July 14 | CES Coimbra | 09H30-19H30

Contents - recognition of symptoms in peers, reflection on technicians’ self-care, the limits of intervention and practices (mindfulness, training of cardiac coherence, among others).
