Trauma Centre becomes an CES Observatory

The Scientific Council of the Centre for Social Studies (CES) has granted the Trauma Center (CT) the status of an CES Observatory.

This decision by the CES's Scientific Council is particularly gratifying since it validates the work which the CT has been doing for almost a decade, in promoting and disseminating knowledge about psychological trauma arising from crisis, disaster and catastrophe situations and in order to act as a forum for debate and the sharing of different knowledge in the field of trauma.

With this intention, and observing in a careful and systematic way the contemporary social reality, we have developed a direct interaction with scientific networks, partnerships and institutions that intervene in these scenarios. We have developed internationally certified Psychotraumatology courses and have worked actively in the training of technicians, with the objective of the best intervention in situations of potential traumatic impact. We have worked to promote strategies capable of stimulating communication and knowledge sharing with the community in general, as evidenced by the work done with municipalities, schools, health units, media, technicians and professionals.

We believe that the Observatory status will open new possibilities for the evolution and dissemination of the purpose and work that we have been developing.

We trust that, as a Trauma Observatory, partnerships with related scientific areas, with entities that promote political strategies and with agents that, in the field, deal with situations that may have a traumatic impact will be more fruitful.

The challenges will be more stimulating and the possibilities of materializing studies on the multifaceted realities of psychological trauma more effective.

Collaborations that stimulate personal and community strategies for preventing and overcoming trauma and, consequently, the mental health of the population will be more successful.

In addition, the current Covid context, with its evident traumatic potential for individuals and societies, calls for an increased commitment from all of us.

We call on all those interested in the issue of psychological trauma and intervention in the crisis and, in particular, on those in the CES community to join us and take on the new CES Observatory as their own. Develop it as a creative space for debate, research, sharing and intervention.
