Walter Rossa


Biography

Walter Rossa (Caracas, 1962). Graduate in Architecture by the Faculdade de Arquitetura of the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1985), Master in History of Art by the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1991), PhD and Aggregate in Architecture by the Universidade de Coimbra (2001 e 2013). Full professor at the Departamento de Arquitetura of the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of the Universidade de Coimbra, where he held various positions, created and coordinated the post-graduate programme and taught on the areas of design, urbanism, town planning, and history. He is researcher at the Centre for Social Sciences of the Universidade of Coimbra, and co-coordinates the PhD course on Patrimónios de Influência Portuguesa (Heritages of Portuguese Influence http://www.patrimonios.pt) of the Instituto de Investigação Interdisciplinar da Universidade de Coimbra with a cooperation and co-tutorage protocol with the universities of Bologna, Federal Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro), Eduardo Mondlane (Maputo), Paris Nanterre and Algarve. He has been invited teacher in other universities in diverse countries. He had supervised 38 graduations, 22 masters and 15 PhD thesis, and supervised 4 post-doc. He has under supervision 2 post-doc projects and 7 PhDs. He has been member of 22 graduation, 36 masters and 29 viva voce examination juris. He is member of councils, scientific, executive, editorial and referee/ peer review committees of journals, meetings, exhibitions in history of architecture and urbanism and cultural heritage, from each he standout the creation and direction of Heritage of Portuguese Influence/ Património de Influência Portuguesa, the interactive website http://www.hpip.org promoted by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation based on the editorial project Portuguese Heritage Around the World: architecture and urbanism, the editorial board of the Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais (Scopus; SciELO) and Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Património Histórico Iberoamericano (IberoAmerican Historic Heritage) network.
